Yes, it is a bit too early for Christmas but the message trumped the picture this time.
I remember as a child, how thrilled I was to get my first library card. I always wanted to take out the maximum amount of books I was allowed.
Many a great day was spent at the library. I was usually reading but sometimes I would just sit and look at the quantity of books and marvel that there was so much to write about. I loved being surrounded by the smells of the books and other readers as taken by their reading material as I was.
The library is still a special place. I don’t get there often but I always have my library card with me, just in case.
Hello. I am the author of the Historical Fiction novel called Mamie Garrison. It is a tale of slavery, abolition, romance and history, set in the years just prior to the Civil War. It is available on Kindle for .99 and also in paperback. Mamie Garrison has a dual storyline. The present day story involves Bella and Andrew finding Mamie's journals. Their story includes romance and paranormal aspects. Mamie's story follows her adventures as an abolitionist through her journals. There are some mysteries as well as an unusual background in Mamie's life. I have completed book two in my series. Colin Garrison, Book 2 of The Garrisons is available at Amazon.com/dp/B0759MYN81. Please see my Colin Garrison page under the menu option for a small sample of this new book. The third and final book in the series, Emily Garrison is now available. Please see above for link. I am 62 with one adult child and one grandchild. I have always enjoyed the written word and have been a voracious reader from my early youth. I am inspired by many authors in the historical fiction genre. I am also a lover of Russian literature, particularly Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. I find great inspiration for creating characters by looking at the ones these two authors have created. There is such a depth to them. I have written for most of my life in one form or another. I have dabbled in poetry and songwriting, and have more started novels than finished ones. In my free time, I like reading, history and travel. I am interested in genealogy and working on my family tree. I live in St Louis.
Yeah, I know… same here.. The first time I got a card.. I was disappointed when the librarian told me “No, we cannot issue another book today.. so what if you have already finished it.. it is issued for a minimum of three days.. but come back tomorrow, I’ll see what I can do”.. etc etc… and then I had a way out (a shameful one).. used to check out one book and then carry a dozen surreptitiously.. I had a deuced time putting them back in place.. and oh, of course, the damned librarian knew.. she always used to look at me with that amused grin.. ok, I know what you are doing..
But the saving grace of this story is.. when I grew up.. I was handed over the keys of the reference section, which had so many invaluable books.. you issue the books to whoever asks for something.. etc.. and I was so thrilled… not only that.. they used to wink at me.. and tell me, I can’t really see you carrying away those priceless reference books.. but ok, who else can keep it safer.. ? Go away!! Don’t bother us.. do as you please
I am forever grateful to those women there.. the best years of my life.. (*And oh.. not just in that town.. in so many different places.. librarians used to trust me with their keys.. and the books.. I am just grateful they did)..

Wow. Apparently I missed out on something as a child because I never had a library card (outside the one for the school library in elementary school). Though, I suppose my desire to read wasn’t very big when I was young and now library’s make me uncomfortable. >.> *is the worst bibliophile ever*

This makes me miss that part of my childhood :). I need to go to the library more often but my reading is grown up, their research can be limited. Ha, no excuses I need to go back even if to sit reading my own book for a few minutes. I miss doing that, going to do assignments at the library. Ok, I will shuy up and go away.
