This is the time of year when I miss my family the most. My mother, father, sister and brother in Florida and their families, my other sister in South Carolina, and my brother in CA.
I grew up, as many of us did, bombarded by the traditional images of Thanksgiving in TV commercials, cards, and movies. My family’s celebrations were not the most traditional, and I often wished we could have the Norman Rockwell style dinners, but for all that, our holidays were always filled with much love, joy and happiness at being together. It is this that I remember most this time of year.
I don’t see my mom or siblings as much as I’d like. Like many families, we have spread to various parts of the country. I have always been somewhat of a hermit and value my alone time, but there are times when I can pull myself out of my shell long enough to lavish all the love I have on them, and now would be one of those times.
I will be with my husbands family and I am thankful for each and every one of them, but don’t think me ungrateful when I say I would love to be able to give my mom and siblings big hugs right about now.
So, this morning I’m thinking of them and sending my love. I will call tomorrow morning.

I am 62 with one adult child and one grandchild.
I have always enjoyed the written word and have been a voracious reader from my early youth.
I am inspired by many authors in the historical fiction genre. I am also a lover of Russian literature, particularly Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. I find great inspiration for creating characters by looking at the ones these two authors have created. There is such a depth to them.
I have written for most of my life in one form or another. I have dabbled in poetry and songwriting, and have more started novels than finished ones.
In my free time, I like reading, history and travel. I am interested in genealogy and working on my family tree.
I live in St Louis.
It’s hard being far away from loved ones and even so more on special occasions. Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving and a happy phone call to your mother.

You are so right! I hate about this system that we move away from our bloodties, our parents and siblings. My mother is in the Seattle area, but so is my daughter. My sisters are spread out from northwest to southeast, and it’s been 7 years since I’ve seen them. I see my husband’s siblings more than I see my own. But, I am thankful every day for life, and a relative happiness in this wicked system. Hugs to you, Teresa.
