I’m not gonna rant. Mostly, because I’m not sure anything can be done.
I would like to ask your opinion on book reviews.
Most writers have received bad reviews. I know I have. I’m pretty thick skinned. Reviews don’t really get to me.
What does bother me, is when reviews descend into rudeness. I don’t care if you don’t like the book, but why be nasty about it?
I’ve been fortunate that, to my recollection, none of the bad reviews I’ve received have descended to this level. I do however, know many authors who have been reduced to tears by bad reviews that seemed like direct attacks on them as persons or writers.
Is there a solution? Should these reviews be filtered out? I really don’t have an answer, but maybe you do.
If a bad review does not contain any constructive criticism, or at least a legitimate complaint, is it necessary to publish it?
And, here is something else I wonder about from time to time. Amazon reviews in general, I have read the rules, and still can’t figure out why the reviews for my first book, stopped when they reached 80. Every instance of an 81st review has been added, then deleted.
I would think that maybe my book is not worth an 81st review, ( lol ), but I know who the reviews were written by, and they fell within Amazon’s rules.
So, there is my thought for today.
Should rude reviews be allowed?
Who decides the cut off limit for reviews on a book, if you as the writer, know there should be more?
Anyone have any opinions or answers on this?
Love to hear your thoughts.
This is a hot topic for me…but this blog article seems reasonable (to me) in accepting reviews…https://seths.blog/2019/02/the-trap-of-early-feedback/
